From The Catwalk to the Sidewalk: Fall Hair Trends
It’s no secret that fall is accessory season: Hats, mittens, scarfs, ear warmers.
But, as hairstylists and makeup artists, it’s our job to know the trends when all the accessories come off.
This year, stylish locks and new dos aside, it’s all about jeweled headbands that cry glamour and drama –
and even Bohemian Girl if it’s worn a certain way.
Look at Dolce and Gabbana’s Fall 2013 Collection: Beyond the actual pieces of the collection, the
designers have created an air of nobility through hair accessories. In this case, crowns. This look has
transcended the runway and has been made more accessible to everyday fashion with the introduction
of jeweled headbands. (We’re super excited to begin offering the new fall line of Jolie jeweled headban
ds at Elements Spa.)
Keep in mind that if a headband is worn across the forehead, it conveys a different look – still in –
expressing a more youthful hippie or hipster vibe.
Dolce has also reinforced romantic, ethereal updos as the fall look, and made a statement that winged
eye makeup is also back.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Prada’s Fall 2013 Collection and its use of the “wet hair look”.
World-renowned hairstylist Guido Palau describes hair this season as “not so much (of a hairstyle), it’s
more of an attitude” and I couldn’t agree more.
For a more edgy or grunge look, the wet look is the way to go this season. Use a wet look gel spray at
the roots and brush straight back for a Prada-inspired finish. This trend really works on shorts crops too.
And then, there are bangs. Emilio Pucci’s Fall 2013 Collection really shows off this classic style.
If you don’t want to go with daring blunt-cut bangs, peek-a-boo fringe is always a good go-to option if
you want to try bangs out.
Good fringe – is always in.
