BALLYOWEN

A TASTE OF GOLFING HISTORY

Designed in the spirit of the world’s first golf courses, Ballyowen is one of the top golf courses in New Jersey, with a spectacular links-style layout that channels the heathland style landscapes of Ireland and Scotland. Designed by Roger Rulewich, the longtime lead design associate for Hall of Fame designer Robert Trent Jones Sr., the award-winning course occupies 250 acres across a scenic plateau. Take in the tranquil atmosphere as you meander through open meadows and rolling farmland, and enjoy 360-degree views of the Wallkill River.

Year after year, Ballyowen is celebrated as one of the state’s top courses {Golf.com – “brawny, beautiful, often heroic golf”, Golfweek – Best Courses You Can Play By State}. After your round, enjoy a drink, a bite to eat, and some authentic bagpipe music at the Celtic-inspired Owen’s Pub. And once back home, visit the online Ballyowen Golf Shop, where you can browse an attractive assortment of apparel, merchandise and accessories inspired by the Emerald Isle.

CADDIE SERVICE

Ballyowen is proud to be one of the only golf public courses in New Jersey to offer caddie service. Learn more below.

CADDIE GENERAL

WHAT TYPES OF CADDIES ARE THERE AND WHAT SERVICES DO THEY PROVIDE?

Caddie:

A caddie is the person who carries a player's bag and clubs, and gives insightful advice and moral support. A good caddy is aware of the challenges and obstacles of the golf course being played, along with the best strategy in playing it. This includes knowing overall yardage, pin placements and club selection.

Forecaddie:

The fore-caddie will give a hole description and then walk ahead to spot the players tee shots. The caddie then gets the players yardage (either with a laser, course knowledge, or sprinkler heads) while the players drive their carts from the tee to their shots. The caddie walks ahead again to spot the golfers next shots. Forecaddie will also give putter service to the golfers. . Usually only 1 forecaddie accompanies a group, but that is not mandatory.
